（県北）鹿角市 水沢地域／Mizusawa Area, Kazuno City

鹿角市水沢地域は、農地70haの中に45戸が暮らす地域で、用水路の管理を地域全体の行事としています。9月11日、今年2回目の水路の草刈が行われました。この行事は年３回の定例行事で、5月には冬季間、水路に溜まった木の葉や泥を除く堰上げ、7月と9月に草刈が行われています。
The Mizusawa area of Kazuno City is home to 45 households living on 70 hectares of farmland, and the management of irrigation ditch is a community-wide event. This event is held regularly three times a year, with weir raising in May to remove leaves and mud that have accumulated in the ditch during the winter and mowing in July and September.
朝７時半、参加した住民は３０名。９班に分かれていざ出陣。それぞれ割り当てられた水路に向かい、作業を開始します。
殆どの水路は渓流取水で、棚田の最も高い所を通る山腹水路です。
暑さをしのぎ、冷たい水に足を突っ込んで小休止する様子も見られました。
ゴールまであともう少し！早朝の作業開始から３時間が過ぎた頃、どのチームも作業が終了しました。地域を守ろうとする住民の皆さんの想いがあって、美しい景観が保たれています。

おまけ
鹿角名物と言えば「北限の桃」。市内中央部が主な産地ですが、八幡平の麓で標高が高く、豪雪冷涼なこの水沢地域でも「桃」を作っていました。
