（県央）由利本荘市長坂地域 / Nagasaka Area,Yurihonjo City

「鳥海山・飛島ジオパーク」に指定されている加田喜沼湿原で、ヨシ刈りが行われると聞いて取材に行ってきました。この湿原は、農業用水を貯めておくダムのような役割を担っています。通常山岳地で見られるホロムイソウが人里に近い湿原に存在しているなど、貴重な環境を持つことから、環境省の重要湿地や市の天然記念物に指定されており、普段は入ることができません。

I heard that reeds were being cut in the Katakinuma Marsh, which is designated as a “Mt. Chokai and Tobishima Geopark,“ so I made a trip there to cover the story.
This marsh plays a role as a dam to store agricultural water. What’s notable here is that Horomuisou (Scheuchzeria palustris), which is usually found in the mountainous areas, can be seen in a marshland close to human settlements. Because of such rare environmental features, the marsh has been designated as the Important Wetland (“Juyoushicchi”) by the Ministry of Environment and a natural monument by the City. That is also why this area is usually off limits to people.

湿原の中の水たまり（池とう）が珍しい景観をつくっています。人の背丈よりも高いヨシを手際良く刈っていきます。そのままにしておくと枯れたヨシが湿地を埋め尽くしてしまうので、定期的に地元で環境保全活動をしているそうです。

木の板を湿原に浮かべてその上を歩きます。

湿原のなかに広がる水たまりはハシゴをかけて渡ります。

この日は、町内会14名とジオパークガイドなど一般参加者7名が特別に湿原に入り、珍しい植物や昆虫の観察を楽しみながら、作業に汗を流していました。

On this day, 14 members of a neighborhood association and 7 members of the general public, including Geopark guides, specially entered the marshland and worked hard while enjoying observing rare plants and insects there.
