気持ちの良い秋晴れのこの日、東由利宿地域で稲刈りが行われました。国道沿いに広がる棚田の一角に、刈られた稲を干した「はさ掛け」がきれいに並びます。
On this pleasant autumn day, rice harvesting was held in the Higashi Yuri shuku area. At one corner of terraced rice field along the national road, hasagake, racks for dying harvested rice, are neatly aligned.
農村の原風景とも言える「はさ掛け」ですが、手間がかかるため今はほとんど見られなくなりました。こうして稲を天日に干すことで、甘みとうまみが凝縮されたおいしい米になるといわれています。新米を食べられるのが楽しみですね！
Some can call it traditional rural scenery of a farming village, but today hasagake are rarely seen because it requires a lot of work. Once dried in the sun like this, it is said that the sweetness and umami are condensed, which makes it delicious rice. I’m looking forward to tasting the new rice!
