由利本荘市西目町の農家や旧西目町土地改良区の職員、地元関係者が参加して、鳥海山の麓、にかほ市馬場にある大潟溜池で「豊作祈願祭」を行いました。
Hosaku-kigan-sai, an annual festival to pray for the good harvest, was held at the Ogata Tameike Pond in Baba area in Nishime Town at the foot of Mt. Chokai. Farmers from Nishime Town in Yurihonjo City, staff members from former Nishime Town Land Improvement District, and some local people participated in the festival.
なぜ西目町から遠い“大潟溜池”で行うのか？それは約200年前の干拓（西目潟干拓）により、すみかを失った龍が、この遠い溜池に移り住んだと言われているからです。御神餅（ごしんもち）*を笹船で流すと龍が現われ、恵みの雨を降らせてくれると言い伝えられていますが、今は御神餅がゆで卵へと変化しつつ、この「豊作祈願祭」は続いています。

Why do they perform the ritual ceremony at the Ogata Tameike Pond, which is so far from Nishime Town? The reason is that, according to a legend from some 200 years ago, a dragon lost his home due to the land reclamation work of the lagoon in Nishime area and relocated in this faraway reservoir.
It has been said that, when you float a bamboo-leaf boat with goshin-mochi, a type of rice cake made as an offering, the dragon god appears and brings the blessing of rain to the people. Now the rice cakes have been replaced with boiled eggs, but this traditional festival has been continuing up through today.

マップは由利本荘市西目町～大潟溜池を指しています。
西目町から車で30分、歩いて20分、鳥海山を見ながら辿り着いた大潟溜池。道中、噴石がゴロゴロしている場所もありました。時代の流れとともに、御神餅からゆで卵を投げ入れるように。
地元代表が、溜池にお神酒を注いで今年も水不足にならないようにお願いしました。
